Ways to Practice Your Spelling Words

 

All activities must be completed and submitted together in a notebook on Friday before the spelling test.  Add up the total number of points and indicate the letter grade you expect to receive for the week on the bottom of this sheet.  Write the activity name and its point value on the heading of each page.

 

40 points = A                   30 points = B                   20 points = C

 

5 Point Activities

_____  1.          Alphabetize the words.

_____  2.         Divide each word into syllables.

_____  3.         Write each word and circle the vowels.

_____  4.         Write each word and circle the consonants.

_____  5.         Write each word and cross out any silent letters.

_____  6.         Write each word neatly in PENCIL.

_____  7.         Write each word two times each.

_____  8.         Make a set of flash cards for studying your words.

 

10 Point Activities

_____  9.         Use each word in a sentence and underline the spelling word.

_____  10.        Write the words and a synonym for each word.

_____  11.        Write the words and an antonym for each word.

_____  12.        Scramble the words or make fill-ins.

_____  13.        Draw a picture and “hide” the words in the picture.

_____  14.        Write the words three times each.

 

15 Point Activities

           

_____  15.        Write a paragraph using at least 8 words.

_____  16.        Cut the words out of a magazine/newspaper, and make a collage.

_____  17.        Write the words five times each.

_____  18.        Locate the words in your textbooks or other reading materials.

_____  19.        Make a word search using the words.

_____  20.       For each spelling word, write three other words with the same beginning and ending letter.

 

20 Point Activities

             

_____  21.        Write a poem using at least 10 words.

            22.       Write a definition for each word.

_____  23.       Write a short story using all of the words.  Underline each word.

_____  24.       Write the words in a code.  Provide a key to your code.

_____  25.       Write newspaper headlines using the words. --You need to write more than one headline in order to use all the words.

_____  26.       Create a comic strip using the words.
